10 Years of NESCent

This November marked the ten-year anniversary for NESCent. To celebrate, past and present members of the advisory board, potential partners for continuing programs, and the NESCent community gathered at the Washington Duke Inn for a weekend of scientific symposia, poster sessions, and reunions.

The event kicked off Friday, November 21 with an evening reception and welcome from Director Allen Rodrigo. Saturday focused on the center's legacy with talks from former NESCentians featuring topics such as open access science, human cultural diversity, and synthetic approaches to the study of ichthyological diversity. On Sunday, speakers discussed Darwinian fitness, cancer, and vaccines and the Triangle Center for Evolutionary Medicine (TriCEM) made its debut. More details about the new center and its launch can be found here.

Video testimonials (and one music video) from past participants were interspersed throughout the first day. You can watch them here and read more testimonials in the Fall 2014 issue of the @NESCent Newsletter.
