Summary | NESCent is hosting the first international workshop on Globally Unique Identifiers (GUIDs) for biodiversity February 1-3, 2006, organized by the Taxonomic Databases Working Group (TDWG - http://www.tdwg.org) and the Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF - http://www.gbif.org). GUIDs will provide basic infrastructure for the exchange of bio-information by providing universal, persistent and unambiguous references to data elements in bioinformatics. This workshop will review potential GUID technologies and then provide recommendations for a development strategy to the TDWG.
